Late Season Hunt - Frustration
Booked a hunt for the 21st to 23 August, in February.
Called the farm yesterday to finalize arrival time, number of hunters and other finer details.
Get told that they now only have blesbuck and warthog available. Original pricelist had impala, eland, springbuck & BWB available as well, to hunt all at reasonable prices.
Price of blesbuck is now R1,500 for rams & R1,300 for ewes, compared to R1,200 & R1,000 on the pricelist emailed to me in February.
Also that we are only allowed to hunt 10 blesbuck between a group of 4 hunters.
Wanted to arrive at the farm early on Friday so we can have most of the day available to hunt, now only allowed to check in at 2 as there is another group that only leave on Friday.
And now they no longer hunt on Sundays.
Get told these are rules of the owner, if we don't like it 50% of R3,000 deposit is lost.
Lesson learnt - rather stick to tried and tested farms to hunt on in August / late season.

Re: Late Season Hunt - Frustration
Does the original documentation that was sent to you in February, state that species may be removed from the list depending on quantities available? Does it state that the pricing can be adjusted during the season?

Re: Late Season Hunt - Frustration
The pricelist does have a clause that states that prices are subject to change and that species to be hunted is at the discretion of the owner, but why not inform hunters in advance of changes to your pricing and game to be hunted.

I feel your pain.... I was booked for a hunt this weekend as well... I msg the farm owner yesterday to confirm that all is in order and get a reply ' sorry boet but somethings come up there won't be any1 available on the farm this weekend to take u out... we'll have to reschedule or cancel' now I had to cancel and tell all the guys that were really looking forward to it and some were first timers that we can't go.... makes me look like I stuffed up the booking

What annoys me is the last minute notice, if you become aware of the situation well in advance at least you can make alternate arrangements.
