Re: flying and firearms
Todor, if you fly SAA you have no problem, as is the case with flights to CT and DBN and other big cities. If you have a flight on SA Express and airlink, they do NOT offer this service. When I flew to DBN with SD, my SD was at the desk well before my bagge arrived. gr8 service

Re: flying and firearms
I spoke to the guys at the firearms desk at ACSA JHB. Only SAA carries firearms locally. None of the others do.

Re: flying and firearms
SAA will carry firearms. If you have a handgun it will cost you R100 per flight. If you have a rifle in a case it will be free but as part of your allowed 20kg checked luggage. You can put your Hand gun in with the rifle at no charge. Ammo must be secured prefrably in a lockable container inside your checked luggage seperate from your rifle case.

Re: flying and firearms
My last flight to Cape Town and back with SAA was smooth and no problems, I placed my handgun in 1 steel box and 150 rounds in another, I really did not want to put the ammo in my main luggage as I already had so much other gear in there, funny thing Joburg charged me a R100 each which was wrong, but I was not going to make a fuss of this, CT only charged me R100 and placed my gun in one bag with a tag and ammo in another same as Joburg but told me that there is only 1 firearm and they can only charge me for one, CT handed me my gun while I was still waiting for my luggage while Joburg only handed me my pistol when I was through the doors o the other side, all went smooth!

Re: flying and firearms
Has anyone traveled with their firearms lately? Does all of the above info still apply, or did something change in the interim?
Are you allowed to travel with your self defense weapon or not?
I might be looking to do a one way trip from nelspruit to durban/pmb to collect a vehicle. Other alternative I got is to take a bus...
