Default Handline snoek fishing oppertunities December 2015 Western Cape

    Good day to you members.

I will be visiting family new year 2016...I would appreciate an opportunity to take my son Ruan on a snoek fishing trip where it is still possible to fish with hand-lines from an old "skuit" like the fishing vessel used in Kalk bay harbor...I did this type of fishing many times before with a great old fisherman by the name of Jerry Fish..he was a legend in the Kalk bay community...I believe some of his brothers are still alive ....
I really would appreciate it much if someone can give me a contact number of someone that can assist me to take Ruan on such a fishing trip. Naturally we will pay for a days fishing..

    Kind Regards

    Gert

Gert, try contacting Dave Christie on (+27) 82 460 8280 - he runs charters out of out Bay but is probably able to put you in touch with the Kalk Bay boys. Good luck

You haven't caught a fish till you've pulled a snoek or a yellow tail on handline.

I grew up in Fishhoek, and for a few years I had a permanent Sunday "site" on the kalk Bay boats.

I believe George is still catering for the Weekend fishermen out of KB on the "skuits" you mention

I will try get his no for you.

I doubt there will be any snoek in the bay this time of the year, but you never know.

The 1st time I went out for snoek, my friend, quite a bit more senior than I and certainly more experienced, described catching snoek in the following way.

"Imagine standing on the 3rd floor balcony and trying to pull up a Rottweiler with a thin piece of gut"

How right he was, which is why, to this day, I cant understand why when catching Cape Snoek on rod and reel they are so lifeless, boring even.

    No, you are quite right.

I bow to your practical, hands on, extensive experience on the matter

Bear in mind Im a total wimp, so maybe, subjectively, the experience just felt like that to me

I am not sure whether this is covered in sarcasm or a jab at me.

I have not caught Snoek before, and am about to start trying. Ever since I have been looking at videos of guys catching around Cape Point and Dassen Island. When I read your description of it I remembered this video and thought it odd, as here and other videos the guys pull the Snoek up quite quickly.

Anyways, wasn't aimed at you but just the statement contrasting what I had seen.
