Default License App - What to Take Along / Submit

Do we have a list anywhere of everything that is required to be submitted with a licence application? As I have it, it is the following –

    • SAPS 271 (issued by your dealer)
    • SAPS 350 (issued by your dealer)
    • Motivation letter/affidavit
    • Copy of your competency card
    • Copy of your ID book
    • Safekeeping affidavit or Regulation 86(8) form
    • 2x Passport photos with name and ID on the back
    • R 140 in cash per licence application
    • Fingerprint form (if your DFO does not have them to hand)
    • Copy of training certificate/s.
    • Letter for your DFO to sign acknowledging receipt of your licence application

Other items that may or may not be applicable, depending upon what is being applied for –

    • Statement of results from PFTC
    • Copy of DSS letter, if not included in your motivation
    • Proof of membership of sport shooting association, if not included in your motivation
    • Certificate of Collectability, if being licensed as part of a collection and not already included in your motivation
    • Proof of membership of collectors association, if not included in your motivation.

    What am I missing?

    DSS endorsement.

    Copy of training certificate.

Copy of statement of results from PFTC - depending.

I always have to give 2 copies of my ID.

2 X Passport photos with name and id number written on the back.

Reg 86 form - only sometimes required if, like me, you refuse to give them photos of your safe.

I also have them stamp a duplicate copy of my application.

Thanks guys, have updated the top post. May as well make this a short sticky.

When you submit a licence application, do they require their original SAPS 271 or will a copy suffice? Assume that the original was filed and they have gone and lost it in the meantime…

The 271 asks for other firearms licenced, in your possession etc. I include copies of front and back of each licence card listed in that section.

I no longer write name and ID on photo's, I just glue them into the right place before hand (top right of page 1 and in the photo block near the signing/RIF section).
I've never given proof of residence and also never provided training certificates for licence applications, only initial competency applications.

Thanks for starting this thread WZ.

I also want to make use of this opportunity to suggest that the applicants for applications in terms of the FCA, be that applications for competency certificates, licenses, temporary authorizations, import permits, or whatever, make sure that they make a copy of the application that they will submit, and get it certified as a true copy of the original application by a commissioner of oaths. This will assist a great deal, should the matter eventually end up in litigation, or if the CFR indicates that this and that did not accompany the application, or if "lost" documents need to be replaced.

Edit: I see that SSP made the point, but I would like to stress it also. Makes life at Court that much more possible and rewarding.

I've used a copy that was emailed to me and didn't have any trouble applying for the licence.

I know this is for new applications however I have a Renewal checklist that the Hillcrest DFO attaches to the 518 (a) and "Annexure to renewal firearm" doc.

I'm submitting a renewal on Monday and will grab a New Application "pack" and then post that checklist and see how much it differs
