Default Your reloading cost on 7.62x39?

    Hi there

Need to start looking at reloading, however I'd like to please get some of your "builds" and typical cost per bullet? Also, how does this compare vs bought ammo (say Barnaul non-reloadable for R5.50 a round)?

I'm not interested in supreme accuracy (3-gun use), but rather at keeping costs to the absolute minimum.

    Thanks for your inputs!!

I have seen guys moulding their own bullets because that is the most expensive part in this reload. My calculations include my time. And saving lets say R1 per round isnt going to convince me to reload.

BUT... I would like to have the option to reload 7.62x39 purely for a SHTF scenario.

There was an awesome thread about someone who was casting for 7.62x39, I just cant seem to find it, really informative. Does anyone remember the thread?

    Excluding brass:

    LR Primer: 50 c
    Powder: 80 c
    Linotype cast bullet: 50 c
    Gas check: 50c

So roughly R2.30 for cast, and add R1 if you load a CMJ.

Were do you source .310/.311 CMJ's

My AK has the nasty habit of dinging the cases.

Dinged cases does not influence the reloading process. I have reloaded Magtech brass cases and counting the amount of marks on the case during extraction when it was fired by my previous Saiga, it can take about 10 reloads before the neck cracks.

    I used to reload using:
    Primer - = 50c.
    Powder (S265) 20 grains = R1.16
    PMP JSP 150grain (303brit) = R4 each

Total cost excluding case = R5.66

Cost of NEW steel cased Chinese mil surp ammo = R6

I suspect there will be a lot more ammo coming in with the amount of rifles being sold. So that might help a bit on price, but the the sliding Rand it might just stay the same.

No reason 7.62x 39 should not be a bit cheaper even with the rand might just be the volume though is not enough
