So roughly R2.30 for cast, and add R1 if you load a CMJ.

Please forgive my ignorance. What is the "gas check"?

Small alu or copper cup crimped to the rear of the cast boolit. Prevents leading in higher velocity and pressure loads.

Not wanting to hijack the other thread, how long does brass typically last when reloading 7.62x39?

Locally, american softpoint or hollow point hunting20 rounds ammo sells for $20-30 dollars Canadian and a pack of surplus 20 rounds for just over 5 dollars Canadian... Russian Barnaul soft point20 rounds hunting ammo 13dollars Canadian . even casting my own lead/cast for B.P./RIFLES And pistols
I would not waste money on brass or powder when surplus ammo is so cheap.

if only this applied to south Africa, Im paying R5.30 per round of Chinese surplus (2011 manufacture) and that's if I buy 1000 at a time

local gun shop is asking R9.50 per round, that's a stealer not a dealer

    My Cost as it stands.

    Brass. R4
    charge 23gn S321 R0.63c
Lead cast bullet with powder coat.R 0.30c without gas check
    Self made check R0.10c
    Primer S&B LR R0.50

First load with new brass and GC bullet R5.53

    Subsequent loads only R1.53

With steel cases(free) and berdan primers. Same cast bullet. R1.50. and with this I don't mind loosing the "brass"

This load shoots about 5'' @100m with the stock Type 56 sights. will try to get it better
