Hi all. Reviving this quick. What do you all pay for ammo these days reloading or millsurp?

I have difficulty understanding the Rand value against the dollar, with the Rand inflated so much. I was curious whether even with the exchange rate....$ vs R...... that your ammo would be somewhat competitively priced.

Online the prices here are about $250 per 1000 if buying in bulk. That's .25c for each mil-surp steel cased-shoot-it-and-forget-about the casing.

Decent brass cased stuff here is about $15-$25 for a box of 20. But you can reload it.

The cheap metal mil-surp stuff in smaller quantities that you get in the stores.....about $7 for 20.....roughly .35c ea.

What I am reading here at GSSA is you guys are paying roughly R106 or so for 20 rounds of steel case mil-surp. Is that correct? At the current rate (which I know you can't really go by) it seems that would be about $8.32.....roughly 41c ea....or R5.30.

Compared to us it's virtually the same and I'm glad to hear it. I don't know if you guys have access to bulk....1000 rounds for example, or if it is even legal there to have so much ammunition on hand in SA. That would really bring the price down though if one could afford the R3,200.

How does this seem to compute with you guys....is my analysis somewhat accurate or am I missing something? I was expecting to see you guys getting gouged out the ass on mil-surp ammo prices. I'm glad to see you pay much the same as us......more ammo, more training.

It sure is nice to blast away and focus on drills etc and not worry where the damned casings are landing and having to go scratch for them among the range brass carcasses.

Default Your reloading cost on 7.62x39?

Maybe its because our milsurp are not bought in US$? Maybe in a currency more rand friendly perhaps.

R5300 per case is around $400. Keep in mind that the average income in SA is way lower than in the US, a case cost around 1/4 to 1/2 a months salary for average middle class worker, teacher or artisan class. Shooting is definitely much expense here than in the US.

Actually a crate contains 2 cans of 750 so the "case" of 1500 would cost R7950 by Fumbles' maths.

I prefer not to comment on what a crate costs me, but understand that going bulk rates are in that ballpark of R8k.

    Hi

I am becoming active again in the 3 gun shoots and need to feed the animal ...

Any cheap bullets or rounds available?
As far as I know the only supplier of CMJ bullets are from KZN. Don't know there quality and the effect of a heavier bullet (138gr).
