Default Anyone here familiar with the 8x57JS?

    Hi,

does anyone here have experience in using & reloading for the 8x57 JS?

I find it strange that PMP don't produce ammo for this calibre as there must surely be a few around in RSA.

What is the local availability of boxer cases and .323" bullets like?

    Thanks

Hornady makes a 195gr Interlock in 323", GSCustom also have a couple
    Try 47gr S335 with 195gr Hornady, start at 45gr & work up.

very popular calibre in the bush. the same or less velocity as a 303, but with a lot of terminal velocity. the guys who own these will die by them.

For all intents and purposes, the 8x57 ballistics are pretty much the same as the venerable .3006. It is a good option for plains game up to and including kudu / gemsbuck size game - experienced hunters using premium bullets will have no hassle taking eland.

Bullets and brass, dies etc are no problem and are available locally.

Attached is a pic of my 8x57 - still fully original and the veteran of many hunts - I have several other old Mausers and enjoy hunting with all of them.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks Peter,

you have a beautiful rifle there.

Between a 7x57 or 8x57, which one would you take?

Umshiniwam - I also want to know that. My heart is set on a 7x57 but the 8x57 is making a serious charge! Is there much of a difference or will it simply be those who own them will die by them! I would love an opinion from someone who owns both and can be objective. (Is that possible?)
