Precisely! You cannot be issued with a licence unless you have a valid competency. Therefore your last expiring licence must have set the expiry date of your competency.

Maybe I am completely lost but according to the link in post 11, there is no legal requirement to enforced to renew your competency. But they will not process a new licence or renewal if the competency is older than 10 years, unless you do competency renewal at the same time. So to me this means its only valid for 10 years or util you have to renew a licence, or you want a new licence. Just might as well renew every 10 years, or am I still missing the point?

My DFO also asked me to renew.

Just pay R70, renew it. Get the paper with no date on. And nothing to worry about.
The paper to me is more of a hassle though. As all my cards are together in a holder in safe.
But the A4 sheet I have to put in a plastic sleeve and leave it in safe.
Would have been nicer if it was a card again.

*sigh. Its very frustrating when one tries to figure out what is going on when a) the law is confusing b) the people enforcing the law dont agree and don't know either c) when its this difficult to find out what it actually is. To my knowledge there was a memo from 2012 (I think) that said that you don't have to renew your competency if you have a valid licence that makes use of that comp (might be the one linked earlier in the thread). That is completely redundant if licences wont be processed if the comp is older than 10 years. What then is the point of the memo? #confusedagain

As far as I know your competency is valid for as long as the licenses are valid ???
