    Default Quality Potjie pots?

    Good day gents

Im searching for quality potjie and dutch oven. Does one still get the Falkirk brand? Is there something else available to the same quality? It seems to be dificult to find anything other than the cheaper bestduty and others.

    Thanks in advance

Best duty is probably the best thats available. Maybe the cadac ones are good as well, but it seems best duty is the one with the most heritage. It seems falkirk is finished.

Yip. Falkirk is no more. Bestduty is good.

Bushbaby ? I don't know how to compare it with other brands, but my flat bottom potjie works a charm

Just make sure it's an enamel one. They don't burn as bad on the inside and are less prone to rust.

Well, that's the thing. My father has a bunch of Falkirk pots and has had them for over 20 years. None have even showed a hint of rust. But if they are no more, ill have to settle for next best thing.

Falkirk rocked. I got one from my grandfather. It's a flat bottom pot, gets used in the kitchen often as well as over fire.

Do yourself a favour and visit a few of your local 2nd hand and pawn shops. I regularly still find falkirk at my local pawnshop at very good prices.
You can never have too many potjies, and they just dont make them like they used to these days...

    Watcha wanna do?

I cook everything (well, mostly everything) in a black pot. Kitchen black pots are Cookwell and Le Creuset (hey, Idunno how much you earn :-) but since I have an easy-going wife my go-to pot is a Falkirk I've had for 20 years.

I also have a gift Oztrail flat bottom which is maybe a bit rough for kitchen use but nicely designed, with a rim to keep the coals in -- this thing is *made* for bread. Dunno where the in-laws got it but they bought it new a few years ago.

And then I have a passel of the best duty / "double thick" (there's a story there but not for here) round pots with and without legs. They're good for potjie on the fire type applications.

Yea, check out the flea markets, you can't stuff a pot up (well, I'm sure you can, but you need to want to) and even the worst pot can be sanded and re-initialised. Basically you boil soup with all the meat and veggie trimmings you'd normally throw away. Havn't done this in decades I guess these days google is your friend.
