300gn Frontier FP Bullets seating depth
Hi guys.
The guy I bought my 44 mag Super Blackhawk from used 18.2gn S265 with the 300gn Frontier FP and got good performance but I can't get hold of him anymore he has moved out the country to get the OAL he used. What would the OAL be on the 300gn bullet? Seating it up to the cannelure with make the OAL 41.25mm not sure if that would be to deep for a 300gn bullet using 18.2gn S265. Can't hear the powder when I shake it. Don't want to have a compressed load. Your guys help will be appreciated
Regards Eddie.

As default QL gives 40,89mm as COL.
A compressed load with an extruded propellant like S265 is only dangerous if max pressure is exceeded. I think you are still on the safe side even though you did not give speed for this load.

He didn't give me the speed. So I am not sure what the speed is.

You need a copy of the Somchem book.

Re: 300gn Frontier FP Bullets seating depth
Going out on a limb here: S265 is an extruded powder which should mean that it is less sensitive for compressed loads. The max COL should at least fit into the cylinder. The Somchem COL should function as a guideline because bullet lengths differ. If your bullet has a longer and thinner nose than the Somchem bullet, it will be seated deeper into the case with resulting higher pressures.

I think when reloading one should measure your speeds as this is the only way that you can relate to the pressure and at least know that your bullets opperate at an exceptable level. Please note that the 44 Mag have significant recoil and it is important to properly crimp the bullets and prevent them from bouncing out under recoil. Seating depth and AOL should be functional for your revolver cylinder and the bullet shape to secure proper seating in the case and the free movement of the cylinder.
