Thanks chaps for the info on this thread so far....
Ok so I got my rifle last week. It is a 1971 model.
It seems to have a problem with the safety I an cock the bolt and clip the safety off but it is very difficult to get it to safe again.
    Any advice?

Thanks Gert - cleaning didn't help much but I found the safety pin to be hooking so I filed it down a tad and now it is much smoother. Almost sold the gun!

Not a good idea to sell this rifle..Mannlicher Schoenauers are getting more difficult to find ...they are still the best quality rifles ever build...

Do you re-load? Play with different bullet weight sizes/different loads ...fouling in the barrel?

I am collecting MS for a number of years and have about 20. Should you need some info I am quite willing to assist. Stefan, r.e. your comment of making all MScalibers from 30-06 brass is a bit farfetched. Although nearly anything is possible and landing a man on the moon might be more difficult, forming cases for calibers such as the 6,5x54; 9x56; 8x56; 9,5x57 from 30-06 brass is really not the way to go. The best parent case for these calibers are asfollows:

6,5x54 from 6,5x57 or 7x57 brass. However 6.5x54 cases are not difficult to obtain.
    9x56 and 9,5x57 from 8x57 brass.
The 8x56 is a bid of a basted. Some rifles chambers the 8x57 case, than you have no problem, however rifles with tight chambers will not chamber the 8x57 case. Should you be able to obtain a base swaging die, then Bob's your uncle and you can swag the 8x57 base to .464inch. If not, you have to go a loooong route by converting the 303 case. I intend to write an article (some day) for Magnum on this modification.

    Hallo Sarel
I need to congratulate on a fine write-up in the Magnum and to reassure you about your concern about de-facing the .458 Win Mag Mannlicher Schoenauer 1956( I will never drill and tap the rifle) ....I did manage to get hold of a original side mount where the mount consist of a barrel ring mount and the 45 degree back scope mount as manufactured for the Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles...Sarel, no de-facing will be done...
I really do think you have a beautiful collection of Mannlicher Schooenauer rifles...please be so kind as to upload some photos of your rifles on this thread for us to look at and to appreciate...

If possible please upload photos of the scope and mounts on your Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles...

Hallo Gert, thanks for the kindwords.Magnum published only a portion of my article, may be they wil publishthe remainder later.I attach pictures of my GK 8x68Sscope (Schmit und Bender) and mountings.I belief that this is the factory fitted SuhlerEinhak-Montage, and for me, thisisasgood as it gets. The rear mounting is horizontallyadjustable, where it attaches on the scope rail. The mounting is rock solid under theheavy recoil of the 8x68S and retains its zero if the scope it is removed andreturned.Certain scopes are available withfactory mounted rails and all you require is a skilled gunsmith to fit themounting to the rifle, should you be able to obtain one.Happy hunting.PS. I am not successful in attachingthe pictures, I wil email them to you and than you can attach them and also telme how to go about it.
