I am in south africa, the part i am concerned about is chopping the barrel down and threading it, my aimpoint h2 will be fitted with a rear sight replacement rail.

Chopping a barrel can be done, with some paperwork.

I meant where in SA. In Gauteng I'd suggest a different smith to Cape Town.

I am in the process of purchasing my very first semi-auto and being an AK nut, this chat has confirmed that I will not be disappointed. One question to you guys (pls forgive me if this has been discussed)...should any part of the Type 56 break, are spare parts available?

Did you just use "Type 56" and "break" in the same sentence? But if you do manage to do that, you throw it away and buy another one at what they cost.

only thing i would suggest is ditching the UTG stock and getting maybe a magpul or something a bit more durable
