Camping with my Son
Hi Guys
So I would like to take my son to the bush, go camping but not some commercial caravan park resort.
His 5 now.
I want to take him to a spot where we have a tree and maybe water, pitch our tent and enjoy the bush, maybe do some fishing or walk around and shoot a bird or two with the pellet gun, the sort of stuff we all got todo on grandpa's farm.
All the places I can find are very commercial.
Does anybody know of such a place, maybe a game farm that will allow it out of season.
I am in Gauteng but would travel a couple of km if needed.
Thanks

We find it very hard to find no commercial sites as most places accommodate tourists. The site above are what I have used for survival training courses.

Re: Camping with my Son
I highly doubt that. I think you would need a private farm for that.

Re: Camping with my Son
Yeah I would recon that as well...
Just see that the OP requested that as an option.
Boondog... I recon your best luck would be to contact a few hunting farms and ask them if you would be allowed to set up a tent during the off seasons and shoot a few birds etc and what thy would charge you for the privilege. Also make friends with some farmers. That is if you are dead set on finding a place to shoot a bird or two with the pellet gun.
Pity is that the days of this are almost long gone unless you are friends with a land owner or are one yourself. Farmers no longer trust people to be allowed to do this responsibly and treat the facilities land etc with respect.
I know a good many farmers that used to allow the general public to fish their dams for bass etc. So long as the place was kept clean and the fish released. They have all long since stopped this because people would pull in on weekends blaring music making huge fires to braai and then leave a mess. These assholes ruined it for the rest of us that towed the line. And I don't blame the land owners either...
