Maybe I have gotten my timelines wrong...but didn't one of the DA speeches state that if they came into power they would set up a narcotics bureau, among other items? It 's almost like the president thought, well we can't copy those privatisation and cabinet cut ideas as it will cost me too much personally, but I can jump on that narcotics thing idea....

Will be much easier and cheaper to just legalise drugs and get rid of the notion of firearm control.

Wonder where this happened recently? Hmm...

Lagalise and tax them. Legalisation will drop the appeal to a large extent and the problem will diminish.

The gangs won't simply stop being gangsters just because the state has removed their monopoly. They will go into something else, or simply undercut the state: look at all the damage caused by illegal cigarettes. Legalisation of drugs by itself will not remotely solve the problems of gangsterism, violence, and death...nor will it miraculously make all those junkies who rob and kill to afford their fix disappear.

There is a very strong (and wrong) impression created that somehow legalising drugs is like a magic switch that turns off all the problems related to drug use in society. I don't buy it.

If somebody steals prosecute them for that, stop the preemptive bull shit. Otherwise why haven't you handed in your FAs yet.
    How about some consistency hey.
Legalised drugs will be too cheap for gangs to be interested in.
Some states in the USA are setting a good example with dagga.

Calm down, I do not oppose legalisation of narcotics. What I am pointing out, is that it won't by itself magically solve the problem. Not even close, in fact. Things may even get drastically more violent and horrible before they get better, as the disenfranchised criminal cartels hit back. So let us keep perspective and realise this problem is far more complex than can be solved by a bill in parliament.

    Interesting notion.
Drugs are not just defined as Marijuana/Dagga.
Have seen to many families and lives destroyed by Heroin, Crack Cocaine and Tik addicts.
People get so addicted to this shit that they are willing to do anything, rob, kill whatever in order to get their next fix.

As for Firearms Control, myself, like many others see the flaws with the current FCA, but I also see the good in it (or intended good) and firmly believes that the FCA and the whole slept of getting a license plays a part that we do not suffer the Mass Mall/School shootings that the US is currently experiencing.

With regards to the specialized units, I would have preferred seeing the Murder and Robbery units be re-opened first.
