Thread: Double rifle

    Default Double rifle

    Hi all.

I'm looking at buying a double rifle for personal use hunting/ sporting .

I'm looking for a no frills working rifle in a 450ne or 470ne or any other big bore caliber.

Price is a factor as my budget is not unlimited so a second had piece will also be considered

I have no experience with double rifles at all,ok yes I have fired a few and handled a few but I don't think it's sufficient experience to determine what is good or bad of any particular make or model .

What make should I look at and what features are best to have or avoid???
Barrow length, ejecters ,locking sears .indicated ect???

Any one with first hand experience and extensive knowledge of double rifles and who has used one for more then ten years Pls shear your knowledge with me

    Thanks
    B

Sadly given the pricing on these kind of rifles they are pretty rare and tough to come by.
Where abouts are you based? If you're Jhb based, try pop through to Rivonia Safari and Outdoor and chat to Pierre van der Walt, he literally wrote the book on Dangerous Game Cartridges. He may well be able to point you in the right direction regarding big game guns. I also know Safari keeps stock of some doubles.

Contact Ralph! His guns are not as expensive as you might think. The engineering is exceptional and with the R/$ you will be better off buying SA. It is his rifle featured on the HUNTEX 2016 bill boards.

Double rifle and price is a factor don't go together.

The cheapest double is a 45-70, around R50k new, Classic Arms had one.

Expect around 70k for second hand in the traditional calibers.

Check on bigbore.org . You can enquire if there are any members wanting to sell.

    Price is relevant
New H&H is out of reach for most people
