The thing I noticed in these situations is how detached a- surreal it is. Unless you close enough to smell things become viewed from a distance. Same applies to sound unless the sound is jarring you do not seem to feel the danger. Our senses are not geared for danger at a distance much further than we can throw. Unless informed - trained watching a gun fight across road through kitchen window, does not seem that dangerous.

I passed it going the other way. Almost collected a female SAPS officer, carrying an R5, running across the highway. Looked pretty hectic.

Probably because we're smart like that.
I would like to add a further party pooper to one of the most abused sayings on the gunternet: "All it takes for evil to triumph in the world, is for good men to do nothing. Except when good men do something stupid and make an already bad situation worse because they should rather have done nothing in the first place."

Went through the action scene at about 13h45-14h00 going south and there were many stopped vehicles of all sorts. Saw the perps tied up and lying on the road - bet they were being boiled from below.

I did see a black beret do a pretty impressive tactical reload on the move. I was also impressed by their general shooting stances and positions none of that shooting with a folded stock crap.

Black berets are SAPS TRT[Tactical Response Teams]- Specialised unit that are very comprehensively trained compared to your average street cop.

I was involved in a similar incident on the N3 opposite Linbro park a few years ago. A police helicopter came over very low and made a made a very tight turn over the buildings. I was still watching this in awe when I noticed that the traffic ahead had come to a dead stop. By the time I came to a stop I was behind a car stopped dead in the fast lane. 2 BG's jumped out the car and jumped over the middle barriers. They ran across the opposite side of the highway without even looking. Both were nearly hit by oncoming traffic. They went over the barrier down to the Jukskei river. Next thing it sounded like it was hailing and I noticed that 223 cases were bouncing off my roof. When I looked up the helicopter was hovering about 5m above me with a cop standing on the skid firing an R5 rifle. By now the 2 BG's were both firing back with pistols. 1 of them was hit just before they disappeared down the embankment. At that point a car in the next lane made space for me and I got out of there. I never saw or heard any mention of this incident in any media.

Everything happened so quickly that I did not have time to consider taking any action.

I'm glad the good guys had the superior firepower advantage this time.
