SG (aka Small Game) will do just fine. But pack a few slugs if you intend to shoot at any reasonable distance.

Test the pattern of various loads at the distance you are likely to use it. A tightly paterning AAA would be better than a SG pattern with cat-sized holes.
A shotgun has limited range, so consider slugs if you have the sights to place them properly.
Considering the ranges cats are normally encountered at, a small calibre rifle might be a much better option.
Please identify the offending predator properly, before shooting it. Lots if cats, bat eared foxes and other species are mistakenly shot for crimes commited by jackal and caracal.

Thanks Guys, it comes into the Kraal at night to take the lambs so identifying it shouldn't be to much of an issue

Missing stomachs means it is probably a caracal do you have any other rifles available i think a shotgun in a kraal with lambs around might not be the best idea a more accurate shot from a rifle will probably be better suited in this situation. If not AAA ssg and sg will work fine.
Consider getting a professional in to sort out your problem

By kraal I mean Kikuyu paddock which the sheep are over nighted in. It has been seen a couple of times skulking around the edge of the field which is where I am hoping to get him. Intention is not to walk into the middle of the flock and let fly. Leopard are suspected of being around and there have been signs, need to get a camera trap to try and confirm.

Caracal eat clean meat like the buttocks and the shoulder.Jackal love the insides.Caracal have short stubby jaws and cannot get into the stomach cavity easily. You will find that the skin around the area that has been eaten by a caracal looks like it has been cut neatly, this is from the way it uses it's teeth on the side of it's stubby jaws to gnaw the area clean. The pointy snout of a jackal or dog enables it to make a hole in the soft underside of an animal and then stick it's nose and jaw in to get to the organs.
Good luck.

Re: what shot size for wild cats/jackal?
Would suggest you first test what ever u intend using at thought range + 10%. Lie a few two liter coke bottles side way filled with water (just easier to find holes) in / on the bushs so they knee height of ground the bottle is a nice test size for pellet count and ability check. Shoot at a few ranges and see what works at what range, you may find the suggestion of use a rifle or professional is the answer.
Or end up with a wilder wiser predator.
I teach Cody to shoot using this method with the 2 lt bottles and red water for effects.
