That’s impressive. Out of interest, what factory number is the rifle?

My Type 56 is a second hand rifle from the 1990s, but I've shot around 12k with it.

I suspect that your rifle may be of quite a different level of quality and workmanship from the Type56 rifles we are seeing in SA now.

I believe one of the mods on Gunsite has a Type56 in 223 from a manufacture date quite a bit earlier than the the Type56s we saw arriving from about 3 or 4 years ago and from my memory that gun is in a quite higher level of workmanship and finish than the guns we see now.

What is the estimated lifespan one expect realistically from a current production T56 in SA?

    In excess of 10k rounds?

This is our original range rifle from 4 years ago, billing system report shows approx 1200rds a month through this rifle. Barrel still functional but throat erosion is severe, no tumbling yet. By far the best value for money 7.62 self loader out there.
    42k so far

Yes but those were the “better” imports

I believe so. This one is one of a special run specifically built for the Finnish reservists in the mid 1990s, number 417 of 600, built in the factory number 386. Longer than normal barrel, which lessened it's accuracy (because it's an AK), but when cut to a proper length it's quite comparable to a basic off-the-shelf AR with a chrome lined barrel. Combat accurate.

    .

Very interesting about the longer barrel issue.
