Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
I wouldn't go so far as to say both are basically equal. For the guys really competing at a high level, IPSC has the allure of provincial and national colours. For some people, that may be a strong motivator. For others, this may intrude on their ability to enjoy it, especially as those in the former category aren't as understanding of those in the latter one. But that's my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
Having shot IDPA for more than a decade, I prefer IPSC. I can say with confidence that the average IPSC shooter will outshoot the average IDPA shooter. The top level IPSC shooter will destroy the top level IDPA shooter. Bias or pissing contest, no. Truth, yes.

Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
Thanx for all the replies guys. My main reason I am considering joining one of the dicciplines is the fact that I want to improve my shooting, aspecially handgun. I am situated in the Northern Cape, which will also be a deciding factor. I reckon the nearest clubs will be in Kimberley. I will try and search on the net. Thanx for all the advice.

Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
From the IDPA rulebook :
"Participation in IDPA matches requires the use of handguns, holsters and other equipment suitable for concealed carry self-defense.
Equipment that is designed with no application for daily, concealed carry is not permitted in this sport. "
There are more categories or types of handgun allowed in IPSC, the IPSC guys can explain it better.
