Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
Imo the majority of the answers to a question like this are driven purely by subjective considerations and the question would be best served by a FAQ like the one provided by SafeSction.

Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
Both are games. Each has it own set of rules. You can shoot both with 1 gun; SSP and Production, CDP and Classic. Both have divisions for modded guns, IPSC allows more mods. Both have targets to attain; IDPA has Master level to chase and IPSC has National Colors. Both are fun. Pick one and enjoy or do both and enjoy.
I enjoy both.www.480bc.co.za

Re: Difference between IDPA and IPSC?
I shoot both, but concentrate more on IPSC.
For me the biggest difference is the fact that the IPSC rule set allows you more flexibility in how to shoot the stage or solve the challenge.
IDPA rule set determines in a large manner how a stage can be shot. IPSC allows more of a freestyle and individual approach that allows a competitor to shoot the stage to his or her strong points or in their prefered way.
I asked this question to several of the top IPSC shooters who used to also shoot IDPA at the 2014 IPSC World Shoot. Their reason for stopping or doing less IDPA is what is typed above.
I also feel the same way and therefore prefer IPSC, but all shooting is good shooting and I have fun at both "games".
As others have said, go to a match. Have a look around and aske questions. See what YOU prefer and then go that route. You can always change later as well.
