Default What would you be prepared to pay pay?

As I have said in a previous post I am a hobbyist knifemaker ...but I cannot just keep making knives ...I need to feed my habit as well! So I need to sell some knives to make some bucks to buy more "groceries" to make more knives so I would like to test the market attached are two knives I have recently made. Top one is a Bohler N690 (4MM) steel with D10 cammo textured handle with a satin finish on the blade (it will have a sheath as well) The bottom knife is 12c27 Sandvik knife steel 3.2 mm thick, Giraffe bone handle scales with Mosaic pins and Mirror finish on the blade... also comes with Leather Sheath.

Now the question if you were looking for a knife in these categories , handmade knife...not commercial...what would you be prepared to pay for either one of these knives. I am trying to get a handle on the perceived value to help me price some of my knives. Appreciate and feedback

    I'm guessing OAL'S here but I'd say top 1; R1200 and bottom 1; R1800

Give or take a few bucks.

Ok thats a bit bigger than I estimated, R1400 and R2000 for bottom. However you probably could get more if you target the right people.

I personally much prefer the top knife as it says "utility" and "good worker" to me. Added to that the subtle choil and jimping and it will make a fine bush craft blade. 4mm is plenty thick enough for batoning and chopping. Really a damn fine blade actually.

    Sorry for the hijack hahahaha

I'd agree with Mr Medics pricing estimate.
I love collecting knives and have been going to the Durban Easter Knife Show for a good couple of years.
That is about the going rate of knives.
But you might find someone who'd pay more.
Advertise it with an added R250 and see if you get any interest.
You'll at least leave yourself some wiggle room if the buyer wants to negotiate.
Byt another thing that I need to mention is that if its a buyer who's serious about knives, your fit and finish has to be top notch to command a high price.
No one will pay top dollar if there's unsightly spaces between the handle scales or other tool marks.
Also, please make sure that the knives are sharp!
No one wants to buy a blunt knife

This. Nothing twists my nuts more than scales that have cracks or gaps between them and the tang.

I'm in the same boat, and frankly the prices for handmade fixed blades seems very low to me.

I paid 4500 for a (big) D2 custom knife, same maker I attended a course at.

He now uses Elmax and Damassteel almost exclusively and his entry level price is 500 Euros. He's located in the middle of nowhere at the bottom end of the Spreetshoogte pass and he can't keep up.

You can walk into Sharp Edge and pay 3000 for a BK9, and I'm supposed to sell a similarly sized custom 5160 knife with custom micarta handles below 2000.....?

My first "paying" job is the kukri in exchange for an anvil, complete bargain, but if I can't get reasonable prices for my knives I'll just end up with a huge collection
