So what I've gathered is that the above mentioned breeds will require no less work than a Germany or Dutch Shepherd?

If you can't spend even 40 min out of 24 hours, which is less than 3% of time in a day, of quality time with your dog, be it running or otherwise, you shouldn't be getting a dog at all. Especially not a big one. Leaving the dog in the yard to mentally and socially vegetate is not fair on the dog and will definitely not be in your favour with a small child around. Training is important, but daily social activities and bonding even more so. To be able to trust your dog with the little one, the dog needs to be really part of the family. Not just a nuisance one has to feed and clean up after and to entertain when it suits. Taking it to training or the park on weekends and ignoring it for the rest of the week will not be enough. A dog, any dog, is hard work and commitment.

Get a treadmill for the dog to help with the energy and reward the dog after running on the treadmill.

    Well said.

All large dogs need exercise. The more they get the better their conditioning and their health. For instance, we have a great 80kg Rottweiler at our club. Looks intimidating but cannot run 25m without getting gassed.

If you want a dog to do a job, like guarding, then regardless of breed it is by definition a working dog.

All dogs need and deserve to be trained to a greater or lesser extent, including pets, as it is important for their development, socialization and to develop a bond with their handlers.

The latter is what drives a dog to protect.

We have a Cane Corso. He is a stunning dog. He does what he is supposed to do. Always stays with the wife and my son. For some reason he is very scared of me but not the same with the wife. I guess that was because of the breeders. With time he is not so scared of me anymore. He does not bark a lot.... likes to talk with us... Extremely protective.... Stunning with children. Has one of the most beautiful black shine to his coat. He is very special to us....
