if I look at that young Kudu in pict, am I correct in saying it would have made for a exceptional older animal - the width of that first turn is huge ?

Treeman....Normally trophy potential on a young bull will have the first curl out to beyond the ears,this is not the case. The first curl here is long,as in height,not width.Just remember that the spiral horn group of animals has the lengh of the horn measured around the curls on the horns ridge,following the curl from the base of the skull around the curls untill the ridge stops,then in a straight line till the tip.Long horns obviously count but it is the depth of the curls that add inches.

Shot a slightly bigger kudu this year, 1 turn in horns. The meat was/is very good.
