Re: 72" x2" Knife blade Belt sander machine build
Spend some time today to cut a few pieces of Olien hout for my camp knife scales. It is great to work with Olien hout, it really gives a brilliant soft finish. In the meantime I completed another small kitchen knife with Olien hout scales on.
The small kitchen knife:This knife balde was forge from a bearing, it really is extremely hard steel, I was not able to drill holes into the tang..I had to epoxy the scales onto the knife blade...

Re: 72" x2" Knife blade Belt sander machine build
Since I commence with making knives I set out to experiment what will work for me and what type of form /shape of the blade/handle will be comfortable to use in knife making. Since I am only making knives for my own household and hunting /skinning and meat processing I am currently experimenting all the way.
I view an important rule I set for myself : no rules apply ..
Here is a knife blade I made yesterday that I feel will work excellently inside the carcass of game or any other animal. Even skinning will be done with this knife...I really would like to hear your opinion in this regard...
The first photo is a camp knife I still need to sand down the blade and handle...
The second photo is the experiment...

Gert, maybe put a matchbox or something down next to the knife for scale next time?

Re: 72" x2" Knife blade Belt sander machine build
Good, I completed my second soft ceramic brick furnace body. I now need to commence with the two gas burners. I really build this furnace air tight , it will really heat up to high temperatures....Here are some photos:
