I do not know how big in diameter wheel you think of using on the belt grinder /from scratch ....
I would suggest if you purchase a good quality wheel barrow wheel , and you can fit large bearings at least a shaft of 20mm diameter since there is a lot of stress on the wheel when grinding some knife blade steel away...
If you have access to a lathe , chuck large enough to fit the shaft and wheel and turn it to a flat surface...you need to put the wheel in a freezer for at least three days so the rubber can freeze solid, then turn it in the lathe ..it really turns nice when freezes...use that as a DIY contact wheel..the castor wheels I bought will not work since it is a hard surface..you need the rubber wheel surface for better control and precision grinding work...

Good members, I completed my chopping camping/hunting knife ...some photos ..I still need to seal the wood using beeswax to make it water and blood proof ...
    (cellphone photos sorry)

The leaf spring steel flat bar in the centre of the two knifes is what the two knife were forged from..will now forge a third knife from that piece , a de-boning /meat processing knife that will look alike ..these two knifes are brothers from the same mother

Thank you Sweet... Have been doing some forging today as well,I used a small piece off-cut from the same leaf spring steel I made the two knife blades from, with this I want to forge a skinning knife that looks similar than the two knives...and I am forging a de-boning knife from a piece of torsion bar from a vehicle...

Forged it and drawn it out :

This is the de-boning knife :

I did some forging today, as well as working on a new technique to make a nice handle for a knife using Olive/Olien hout at a specific method..here are a few photos:

I think this method of making a handle will make for spectacular end grain on the knife handle of this Olive wood ...This is definitely a technique I will be starting to use more frequently..
