    Default Deceased Estate

    Good day all,

After going through countless threads and getting different post about what is needed in order to license a deceased estate firearm.

Am I Correct in Saying that in order to license a firearm from a deceased estate I will need to have the following documents.

    Copy of deceased licence,
    Copy of death certificate
    Copy of ID
Completed SAPS 271 form signed by the executor of the estate.
    Letter of executor-ship

I would like to have the pistol posted to the local gunshop I love to use.
Just trying to see whether or not it is legal to do this and what documents we may need in order to do this.

Just received licence for shotgun from an estate.
I also got a letter from executor to say gun was being sold to me.
Executor moved gun to my lgs for storage only.

Yes as far as I know that's all you need.

271 if they are going to store it for you (but the estate can't technically be finalised before you get the licence)
54something "transfer of ownership" if it's going on the gunshop books.

Yes, you've got the right documents in mind. No need for finalisation of estate to be delayed due to licence in process.

    To ask again..
Can all the above be done by myself?

Do it yourself. You will probably need a letter from the executor of the estate declaring that he is the executor, the details of the owner of the firearm & that he is deceased & the firearm is being sold to you. Also normally need a (certified?) copy of executor's ID & his letter of appointment. This normally just requires a phone call to the executor (who is often a lawyer).

Other than that, as already stated you need:
    Copy of deceased licence,
    Copy of death certificate
    Copy of deceased's ID
Completed SAPS 271 form signed by the executor of the estate.
and your normal own supporting documentation

Here in PE, the Executor of the estate has a fee of almost R900 above the cost of the actual firearm...

The executors letter stating the FA is being sold to you must also state that there is no other claim to the FA by any beneficiaries named in the will.

Executors are milking the process to complete the SAPS 271 and supplying the necessary docs!

    No free lunches anymore...

As far as I know executor fees are fixed based on value of estate and income generated during the period of executing the estate. No extra charges for completing forms. It may have changed from my varsity days but still sounds like a rip off.
