Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
I am very happy with the Mastercraft set but I got the plastic case and it is ripping on the seams. Also because the case is hard plastic with no foam inserts it is a slep when I need a tool replaced because they sometimes change the design of the tools and they no longer fit.

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
Yeah this is also my only issue with the set as well. Have had to put a hasp and staple clamp on my box to keep it closed and a face cloth inside to stop the sockets falling out when in transit. If you do get Mastercraft fork out the extra and get the steel tool box. The plastic box is shite

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
Ex work colleague (years back now) had a simple approach.
He bought a cheaper tool set (sockets/spanners) and as the more commonly used ones failed, he replaced them with quality products.
Screwdrivers though, start with quality.
Most reasonable quality tools should last a DIYer some time before breaking.
My own tool box is now about 95% Gedore sockets and spanners.

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
Ampro is also solid.
Gedore isn't what it used to be anymore.
And for the price, Ampro/mastercraft is more value for money

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
Yeah the old gedore stuff was good but alot of their stuff is being budget manufactured these days, ampro and mastercraft are worth their price and work for us, we repair earthmoving and mining equipment so we have put them properly to the test, plus their no quibble warranties are also a bonus, honestly, the new gedore stuff is overrated and overpriced compared to what they produced in the years gone by.

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
Can also recommend Ampro.
Have one of these sets I bought from Autozone a few years back when my tools were stolen https://www.amprotools.net/Product/P...-CASE-(METRIC)
Pity you cant get them in SA anymore. Was like R1600 back then on special. Only thing is the screw drivers are crap and the side cutter is on the small side. spanners and sockets has seen some work and are still perfect. I just added new insulated screwdrivers and side cutter, vernier, hacksaw and a big 450mm shifting spanner for servicing axles/bearings.
If you cant sort out something with that box you need some serious help

Look at crescent tools as well. Good quality, as is King Tony.
You can get Kennedy tools at a reasonable price now days too.
Stay Bladed.

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
My father has a good set called Armstrong. I do not know if they are locally available though.

Re: Mastercraft or Gedore tools?
I agree fully with the Mastercraft tools as a DIY or non-professional tools. have a few items, as well as AmPro. very good value for money on the sockets and spanners, and they get the job done. I have had to have my Gedore tools replaced, after my bakkie got relieved of a toolbox with all Gedore and Will tools... was a very sad day indeed...
I started getting the items I regularly need, and buying the best I could afford, sometimes Gedore, sometimes AmPro and sometimes MasterCraft... I am a heavier than average DIY user, but not a professional/fulltime mech...
