Affordable Optics
I am in the process of buying a tactical scope and have done lots of research. I thought I had nailed down my choice to one scope - the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 with the EBR2C "Christmas" tree reticle in the First Focal Plane. Then over the weekend I found this one: Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 It has almost the same reticle as the Vortex also FFP. It also has a world wide do what you like to the scope and they will replace it warranty I have had a look at some reviews on youtube and the guys are comparing this to the Vortex.
My question is - Have any of you heard of this Scope/company? Do you think its worth taking a chance?
I suppose I should say here that the Vortex is $949 and the Athlon is $369.

Re: Affordable Optics
I would personally stick to the better known brands. I don't know the Athlon at all, but my gut tells me to be concerned with the price at those specs.
I am unashamedly biased towards Leupold and Vortex, but would also look at Lynx, Nikon, Burris etc.

Re: Affordable Optics
Hi Bruce, I've got the Argos BTR and I'm pretty happy with it. For the price, I haven't seen anything better. The first focal plane and reticle takes a little getting used to. My eye keeps getting drawn to the reticle rather than the target.
If you're in the Johannesburg area and would like to try it out PM me and we can arrange something.

Re: Affordable Optics
I got myself an Athlon Midas BTR 1-6, and it's friggin incredible.
I've read on multiple forums that apparently it's made to the quality as the Vortex PST. And also has a lifetime warranty.

Re: Affordable Optics
Got mine from optics-trade.eu for around 550 euro with shipping. They regularly have massive sales.
Shipping was a breeze, and zero import duties if I remember correctly. Was just plain VAT, I think.
