    Default Tanning a cow hide the modern way-Johan Greyling design

    Good day to all members.
    Sometimes a person come forward with a brilliant concept. Johan Greyling designed a new modern method to substitute an old traditional method to tan ox thongs ....take a look at this ingenious design ....
    Here is a frame he designed and build to tan/ brei the thongs.


    The motor on top is turning clock wise and anti-clock wise.Winding the thongs up and down..

    Yes , Von Gruff, that thread was about the old way to do it, this is a complete new method and technique that makes it so unique...

    I have seen a number of streetlights being used on farms in a similar fashion. You do get them at scrapyards drom time to time.

    Yes, you are correct , in Witbank a scrapyard is a fascinating place to walk around , I have sourced numerous used items for building projects. Like the platen plate on my belt sander is from a scrap yard. Most of the parts for my power hammer build( still to come) is sourced from a scrap yard...maybe we should start a thread of " What did you find on the Scrap yard today?"

    I am sure it will be fascinating stuff....

    Here is an ingenious way to cut the cow hide into thongs/strips to be tanned/brei.
    Johan designed/build this cow hide thong cutter, it is fully adjustable.
