    Default Australian gun-control success

    http://www.reuters.com/article/us-au...-idUSKCN12L0P8

Australia on Friday announced a gun amnesty for next year after a criminal intelligence report estimated there were 260,000 illegal firearms in the country.
No doubt it will work even better in a law-abiding society such as ours.

Why would there be a need for amnesty, I thought Australia....
    1) ...had no guns
    2) ...had no gun related crime
    3) ...was the perfect example of gun control (Hitlery).

an "amnesty" makes it appear they have a problem, hmmm

I'd love to know how they estimated the amount of illegal firearms in circulation. And also what percentage of their estimate is eventually surrendered under the amnesty while we're at it.

The other day the press was quoting figures of 600 000 illegal guns.

The figure changes all the time depending on how desparate the antis are.

The problem is infinitesimally small, although the antis and politicians love to try and make it seem bigger than it is. In 2012 there were 49 692 premature deaths in Australia, of which 226 involved the use of firearms. Most of the firearm related deaths were suicidoes at 177. (www.aihw.gov.au)

The antis are worried becuase now, out of a population of just over 24 million, there are approximately 1 million licenced firearm owners and that number is growing constantly. Firearm owners now make up a significant portion of the voting numbers and are traditionally never going to vote for the anti-gun political parties. I believe that is why we are seeing more frequent attacks and smear campaigns against firearm ownership by the antis. The attacks have also become more hysterical and emotionally charged and have relied on increasingly fabricated statistics, to the point that parliament is growing weary of the antis nonsense.

Another worrying trend for the antis is that they often rely on the stereotype of aggressive male firearm ownership and how that somehow makes women unsafe, but the fact is that female firearm ownership is rising quicker than male firearm ownership. In particular, the number of junior female shooters is rising quicker than male junior shooters and at this year's SSAA National Junior Challenge, the girls beat the boys in almost every discipline (in Australia, in the SSAA, males and females compete on an even footing, there is no men and ladies division, although there is under other organisations).

Estimated illegal firearms in Australia is between 260 000 and 6 000 000. Quite a diverse estimate.

The gun controllers are going through a bit of a revival. Australia is banning the Adler shotgun because it is scary lever actiony thingy.

Here, Adele Kisten got to sit next to Phalane at the destruction of 23 000 firearms last week.

GFSA are printing more "gun violence survivor" stories, the ante is being upped as the amendments are due out in December. We, as the gun fraternity, must be louder and prouder than them. In particular we need our ladies to be loudest.
