Lower orange more so historically, because it retained more pools in the olden days during dry season, lets say past augrabies.

Since the verwoerd dam the whole of it, including van der kloof.

I grew up on the banks of the orange, I know a thing or two about babers, by far the fish I target most.

I have seen Barbel not much longer than that + 8/10 inch but a lot wider, "dikker" as the people say. T where would you put that barbel - 15 kg at most 12 more likely. If I am correct its then one third of a "book record size" - which would make monster barbel stories easier to believe.
I always remember after a flood we had there were barbel washed down and my description of them to my father was they could swallow a orange whole.

I recall in Stywe Lyne a orange river barbel at 49kg a couple years ago.

Biggest barbel I have seen downstream of Parys in the vaal at the Schoemandrift weir was 25kg.

The barber T-Stone is holding up is just right for juicy and succulent steaks...nothing beats barber steaks...not even Hake..., tie it to a pole, cut around it`s head through the skin, cut of the fins , and pull the skin with pliers off....you will have beautiful red meat....clean the intestines , and put it in the freezer as straight as possible...now cut it in cutlets /steaks of about twenty five millimeters thick ...season it with lemon juice and course black pepper and salt... and fry in a pan...best fish you can get hold of...

The Batswana call them African River Beef and those found in the clear Linyanti are excellent eating.

Record for Vundu in Kariba is 276 kg.

I have heard some stories about monsters in Hartbeespoort, but not sure if these stories are true.

Biggest I have caught in the vaaldam was 18kg, on a red mielie meant for carp.

Remember a chap years ago telling me that on the border they caught some with the intention of eating. When they opened them up they were full of worms. :
