Outdoor Floodlights options
Hi Guys
Busy upgrading lighting around the house.
Any advice on what exterior floodlights I should be looking for?
Suggested brands, what to watch out for, LED vs Halogen, etc etc
Looking for energy efficient options, but they need to be bright as well
Thanks

Re: Outdoor Floodlights options
Be very wary of the cheap LED lights. Buddy of mine recently put up a couple around the outside of his house. Suffice to say they didn't last long nor did they produce anywhere near the brightness that's advertised.

Re: Outdoor Floodlights options
Have both halogen and Led motion lights around the property. Think they are Eurolux brand, anyways bought them from Builders Warehouse.
Initially I started with the 500w halogen options and as the bulbs went I replaced them with 300w for a more cost friendly option. For my purpose I could honestly not see a big difference between the two bulbs in terms of light output.
The one light packed up and I replaced it with a 20w Led light as they were on special at the time. The difference between the 20w led and 300w halogen was more noticeable, but for the area that that specific light needs to cover it is still ample.
I will be replacing my existing halogen lights with Led's if they also finally pack up, but will look at a higher output model. Another factor for me was the initial cost of the Led lights, but they have since become more affordable when compared to halogen.

Re: Outdoor Floodlights options
Just the one light that packed up, no idea what went wrong with it though.
One of the other lights goes a bit bonkers when it rains, but it is only partially covered by the roof overhang, so that does not really come as a surprise after it hanging exposed to the elements for about 5 years now.

Re: Outdoor Floodlights options
I needed a work light for my casting table. Selected a 10w chinese outside floodlight. The first one lasted about 2 hours, then went dead. The second didn't work for 5 minutes! The shop exchanged them no problem. The 3rd one is working for a few weeks now, total runtime probably a day. So far so good.
Check out the quality and after sales service/warranty.
