Default SPYDERCO- TO GET ONE OR NOT?

Calling all Spyderco fans, shall we call you Spydermen?

For those of you that follow the knife threads would have noticed I'm a sucker for a custom knife. However after losing a knife over the weekend, which was "luckily" my CRKT (which has served me well for a number of years), I decided it is time to look elsewhere for a quality knife which is easily replaceable.

With Christmas around the corner (and the possibility of a bonus ) I will be looking at getting a production knife as an EDC, this knife will be used for the normal knife jobbies, opening boxes/packets/bags, braai'ing, eating biltong and a bit of farm work. I do own a Leatherman so I only need a knife, not a mobile toolbox. Budget would be around R3000.00.

Now my question, is Spyderco the way to go or are there any alternatives I need to look at and consider?

The size I'm considering is about 15cm-20cm when open, and about 7-10cm when folded, judging by what I've read this will be in the Delicta 4 range?

I have been in the same situation. After loosing a spyderco police I realised that even though they make brilliant EDC knives they are too expensive to EDC for the purposes that you are requiring it for. I got myself a spyderco endura 4 FRN.(For about R1000 at the time)

I'm sure that if you look around a bit they are going for under R1500. I prefer the feel of a knife with G10 scales. It has a more solid feel. Having said that the FRN knife has really surprised me. I have used it for everything from opening tin cans to eating biltong and the blade has stood up 100%. The knife is still solid with no blade movement when lock. If I loose it I will be sad but it will not break the bank.

Occasionally I carry my CR Sebenza. I am always edge about loosing it and even though I know that the knife is up to the task there are certain things that I will not use it for fearing that I will damage the knife.

    Endurance? You mean Endura?
That said, the Endura costs around R1600-1700. Waaaaaay under his budget. But I love mine to bits.

I love my Delica 4 with the Emerson wave feature. After more than two years of daily use it is still as new. No play on the blade or locking mechanism. Only piece worse for wear is the clip that have lost quite a bit of paint. I use it regularly but I don't abuse it and it does keep an edge very well.

I like the delica, that's the knife I use the most. It's not too expensive and it's a solid knife.

The PM2 is nicer, but a lot more.

I have a G10 version of the Delica which is the best of both worlds for me.

My Endura is lasting really well too. The blade also has zero play.
Just keep it away from cardboard. Sadly I blunted mine badly that way.
