    They (ewes) often 'hide' the young, at first, like that while browsing. This is only for a while until the lamb is fit enough to keep up. Lamb won't move at all until you are right on top of it. When they get a little older, they tend to keep together in a 'creche' where one or more ewe(s) keep an eye on them.

    GameFarmer is right, springbok, and many other species of antelope, hide their lambs for the first few days. The lamb in the photo was still wet, it was perfectly ok.

    Funny, one day I nearly stepped on a very young gemsbuck calf, before it darted from underneath my feet. Lost at least 10% of my still functioning brain cells.
