A Surprise Visitor.
About two years ago, a roan bull appeared on our property. We phoned everyone with roan on their farms, in the direct area, but no one was missing one. Before we could decide what to do with him he disappeared. Yesterday morning while hunting, there he was again (assuming it is the same bull), not a tag in sight either, which is unusual for such a valuable animal, far away from its natural distribution area.

Yes, roan is hippotragus equinus and sable hippotragus niger. They can crossbreed. In Afrikaans it is called a bastergemsbok, probably because of the color and the facial mask, it is not related to gemsbok.
