Goshawks eating a cape fox.

While driving on the reserve early yesterday morning, I spotted a pair of pale chanting goshawks eating something. On closer investigation, it turned out that they were snacking on a cape fox. The fox had a pair of puncture marks on its throat.

Caracal or black backed jackal.

Your veld still looks very dry! Have you had rains TStone?

My father says at least once you cross the Orange River heading north the veld conditions seem to improve. The Karoo is still extremely dry.

Maroelas, we had 10 mm a week ago and there is a lot of clouds building to the North of us, at this moment, we are holding thumbs.

Pale Chanting Goshawks are opportunistic scavengers and predators who will eat any animal, alive or dead, they will get their claws on.
