Wrong caliber on barrel
Hi guys,
Interesting issue that popped up.
My father's 30-06 is stamped on the barrel as .30 Remington. License is issued as .30 Remington as well. But there is a significant difference between .30 Remington and 30-06 Springfield. My dad bought this rifle in 1964 and it has never been an issue.
My dad applied for a reprint of the license as it was missing (found the original in my safe about 5 minutes ago). This is when the caliber issue was identified.
My dad will take the rifle to Andy Fuller for a gunsmith report on the caliber.
What is the process now? Completely new license application or just a change of details application?

Re: Wrong caliber on barrel
Strange. My M1 was also originally licensed as .30 Remington.
No answers for you though.

Re: Wrong caliber on barrel
One can only guess how the calibre got captured on the database...
You have 2 options IMO:
1. Try to have the license fixed. This will entail lots of paperwork and no guaratee of success. Keep copies and proof of all paperwork.
2. Keep it as is. The make and serial number corresponds to your license, so you should be good in an inspection. The ammo headstamp does not correspond, but that is not required by the FCA, it only has to fit the FA.

Re: Wrong caliber on barrel
Andy's report, copy of licence, SAPS 517(g) and submit these to your DFO - keep copies. Nothing will happen but you will have done the necessary.

Peter, 517g seems to be renewal of competency (according to Google and saps website). Should it not be change of details form?
My dad might just relicense the rifle now (current license is valid till 2021). In 10 years from now my dad will have passed 80 and will probably not hunt any more.
