Sure does but it doesn't come cheap either by the look of it!

Like most top tier equipment compared to the run of the mill stuff.

That's an entirely accurate observation. You usually get what you pay for.

    Get a real sharpener.

    Sharpen the tiny chips out.

So what is a real sharpener?
Plain Arkansas stone or some device thing?
I was under the impression the warthog is pretty decent?

Wet stone I suppose, but its a lot of manual labor and to keep a constant angle is very difficult which is where the clamp systems are handy.

The Warthog Multi-edge is decent because it keeps a constant angle. The other Warthog systems are improved versions of the pull-through idea. If your hand wobbles you have a scratched blade.

Ah yes. I have that one in a wooden box that controls the angle.

The you just need some practice What works best in my experience is the count down method: ten strokes on the left hand side of the blade, then ten strokes on the right hand side; then nine and nine, eight and eight until you finish with a single last stroke. This way, the amount of metal removed is not random but measured, and it makes for a clean and even cutting edge.

The Spyderco sharpmaker is a great device and will keep your blades hair-splitting sharp. The 'trick' with any system is to continuously keep your knives sharp and don't let them become dull.
