338 Lapua
Hi Gents I have a question about the 338 Lapua. Why is it illegal to hunt buffalo with a 338 Lapua with a 300gr bullet in South Africa if it shoots it faster than a 375 h&h? Just asking.

Re: 338 Lapua
Diameter of bullet and shooting faster does not mean that you have a better penetrating projectile that will deliver an effective killing shot. Lots of buffalo have been killed with 303, AK47 and 308, but that does not mean they are perfect calibers for buffalo hunting. History has shown that the 375 is adequate in most situations. That has made it the minimum norm for legal buffalo hunting in most African countries.
Most 338LP platforms are very bulky for a walk and stalk hunt and would need a gun bearer.
