Hey Clouds - please help me out. I'm keen to do a steel challenge sometime this year, so I've been reading up on it. Looking at the results, the winning times seem unbelievably low, sub four seconds a stage. I understand this to be an aggregate score of the four best runs on a stage. If so, these numbers are comfortably better than the world record times. What am I missing?

    A lot

Look at individual stages and compare times that way

Stage Competitor Name Time Year Average
    Pendulum Max Michel Jr. 10.07 2008 2.52
    Roundabout Max Michel Jr. 7.96 2011 1.99
    Showdown KC Eusebio 7.99 2011 2.00
Five To Go Max Michel Jr. 9.58 2007 2.39
    Speed Option KC Eusebio 9.73 2010 2.43
    Smoke & Hope KC Eusebio 7.39 2004 1.84
    Outer Limits BJ Norris 11.14 2008 3.71
    Accelerator Max Michel Jr. 8.94 2007 2.23
    vs

    Matic, Daniel Total time 129.34

    Total time per stage
    Roundabout 14.77
    Showdown 14.45
    Five to Go 20.37
    Speed Option 15.50
    Accelerator 15.14
    Pendulum 17.55
    Smoke and Hope 11.87
    Outer Limit 19.69

You should also look at what division scores you are looking at. The lowest times are usually for shotgun shooters as they only do 3 runs of a stage. And the semi shotguns are rather quick to boot. The next batch are usually the .22 carbine shooters as they are very quick with a dot sight. Then you get the rest of the shooters in open and iron sights.

Thanks, didn't understand the divisions, that makes sense now. Must get my backside in gear and enter a challenge.

Thanks again for the effort to the whole team, had a lot of fun, and made some bad mistakes today...it's all a learning experience!
