Default Leopard shot after attacking dog handler

The following cat was shot after attacking the dog handler. They were hunting jackal and caracal when the dogs bayed a massive tom cat. Unfortunately it seems the handler got a facelift trying to pull the dogs back. He is in hospital recovering well. The cat was shot with a 222 Rem and weighed 112kgs. The farm is near Alicedale, eastern cape. Ive guided there on many occasions. Unfortunate event, i like leopard and their secretive nature.

Trying to pull the dogs back you say? Gees, that's brave. I hope the handlers OK.

Often dogs will pick up a leopard and the handler can call them off. There are a lot of variables that come into place but it is done more than one knows. The last leopard shot in our area that i know of whilst hunting caracal was prob 25 years ago....funnily enough also with a 222 Rem.

Hectic... lucky man for surviving the attack.

However I think you should check your scale...

112 kilo leopard would make it the heaviest leopard ever recorded by a country mile.

That dude must be huge if he can bear hug a dead weight clean off the ground of 112 kilos

Since they were hunting jackal, wonder if that .222 was loaded with varmint bullets?

Ive weighed enough carcassed on that scale to know it works. Zim shoot 200pounders every so often. But he is big.

Still a huge leap from 200 pounders being shot in Zim to 250 pounder suddenly showing up in the EC. EC leopards are not famouse for being particularly big.

No doubt that cat is a bus, but he aint 112 kilos
