We had 13 competitors in the first 1 day a couple of weeks ago in Cape Town, and there seems to be a growing interest.
I can only think that there will be much more interest in Joburg and KZN, just given the number of shooters.

I also think what a lot of guys don't understand, and therefore are hesitant to get involved, is that the targets are really BIG compared to shooting tiny groups at distance.
We work with targets between 1.5 and 3 MOA in size at any range. So if you were shooting at 100m, the targets would be between 4.5cm and 9cm in size... which ANYONE can hit with any half decent centerfire rifle. So it's more about getting into a stable shooting position quickly, and then being able to quickly transition to the next target ASAP.

It's a really exciting competition format that gets the blood pumping... with a long range rifle.

I posted this thread almost two years ago, http://www.gunsite.co.za/forums/show...Rifle-Shooting

Very happy that something like this has came to fruition.

    Totally !
    See the Tac Driver rules:
    http://tacdriver.co.za/2017-rules/

    Gas Gun – Heavy Division
    Semi-Automatic Rifles Only
    Allowed calibers: .308 Win / 7.62×51 NATO
    Maximum muzzle velocity: 3200fps
    Scoring
1 hit required per target, maximum 3 shots per target
    1st round hit: 2 points
    2nd or 3rd round hit: 1 point

    Gas Gun – Light Division
    Semi-Automatic Rifles Only
    Allowed calibers: .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO
    Maximum muzzle velocity: 3200fps
    Scoring
1 hit required per target, maximum 3 shots per target
    1st round hit: 2 points
    2nd or 3rd round hit: 1 point

It's a bit different to the USA Gas Gun divisions, as we just don't have enough Gas Gunners to run a 'pure' Gas Gun event, so we've applied Bolt Gun rules to Gas Guns, but put them in their own division. It was the only way we could offer a Prize Table that didn't have a bunch of weird order criteria.

So the Gas Gun guys get an extra 3rd shot at a target (if they've missed the previous 2), hopefully that helps to even the odds against the Bolt Gun guys.
We'll see how it runs during the year, and tweak it if we need to. (opinion welcome... ;) )
