    Something I am just thinking about - unless it is a slug that was fired, isn't this shot with a shotgun a bit risky if they grabbed his daughter? Assuming they held her hostage of course...

    Shotgun spread is vastly exaggerated in stories. The pattern opens around 1/2 an inch per yard, so at the 5-10 yard ranges common indoors, it would only be 2.5-5 inches across. Roughly the same as a mug.

    The results for the two unmodified barrels, the Remington Improved Cylinder and Cylinder, showed an average spread of .58″ and .60″ respectively.

    The next job they just escalate the violence.
