Welcome to DoD defence contracting 101 If you want a more in depth course, Google F-35 unit cost. The most expensive low-cost fighter program in history, and the chuckles are still ongoing, with some estimates for LRIP9 at $127mn average apiece, including engines, which are a separate contract with P&W. http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/defense/2017-01-18/new-pressure-lockheed-martin-reduce-f-35-unit-cost

Apparently less than stellar. Pirate knows more about it, I'm sure.

Also $2000+ per pistol. SOCOM, MARSOC, most of NATO, the FBI, etc... all went Glock. I hope President Trum squashes this. General Mattis is not a fan of DoD procurement policy and stated it was better to buy COTS (ie a Glock 19) and be done with it.

Beretta offered the M9A3 for $580 a pistol.
100% agree. It it were me choosing, it would be Glock ALL the way.

It is a waste of tax payer funds. The biggest problem with this is the simple fact that originally they were going to drop 9mm altogether. They didn't. Much like the fiasco with the XM8 and later the SCAR16. Both shot the same SS109 5.56X45mm 62gr load. Hence sticking with the M4.

Now since we're sticking with 9mm. They could've kept the M9 and done a one to one replacement with the M9A3 when M9 wore out. Would have saved tax payers millions.

At least we get to see just how durable the chassis system will prove to be.
