Re: importing magazines from USA
From 9 March 2020, most small arms, parts, and accessories were moved from ITAR's USML (United States Munitions List) to EAR's CCL (Commerce Control List), concluding a review process that started all the way back in 2011. Benefits include reductions in procedural burdens and costs to the US firearms industry, and probably most importantly for us, ITAR's $100 export limit no longer applying to these items (For orders exceeding the ITAR $100 limit, there were hefty export permit fees, so those are effectively gone too now).
However, this does not mean that items like magazines can be freely posted over by your US friends; EAR still has paperwork and export controls that must be complied with. Couriers and freight forwarding companies are still unlikely to accept these items, so you will still have to use a US-based exporter that specializes in firearms. However, the bar is much lower than before, and US retailers like Brownells are well positioned to assist you with the process.

@Brendank: What $250 permit? Also s.a side is ITAC which is not costly. Biggest cost now is the shipping as far as I know.

Re: importing magazines from USA
Im assuming the $250 fee has changed, but ive emailed Brownells to see if anything has indeed changed.
If the savings, if any, are there and are passed on to the consumer here in SA, im happy to buy local.
But im not seeing it.
Ive seen how prices have dropped in the last year for AR15s, but not on other firearms.
Im in the market for a Sig P320 xcompact, but the local prices are not lining up with the price difference, say comparing the Compact to the X compact overseas.

Re: importing magazines from USA
To clarify the ITAR Export Permit has a price of $200, and Brownells charges $250 to do it for you, so they make a little off the top for their service.
I've also been struggling to get clarification on if the parts moved from ITAR to Dept of Commerce has the same zero cost export permit as the rest of items that fall under their jurisdiction. I would assume there is some sort of relief from ITAR costs, as one of the goals of the change was to reduce costs on US made items making them more appealing to export.
It says it in press release I read many months ago.

Oh ok. have not imported from Brownells before. This was as per other firearm related companies that the $100 limit no longer applies.

Which other companies? Sounds like it might be time to support them.
