Affordable hunting scopes
I recently bought my first hunting rifle and need some guidance on the most affordable yet quality hunting scope to buy. I was advised at Wildman that the bushnell 6-24x50 trophy xtreme 2016 30mm doa LR800 at R 7000 is the best buy if compared to other makes that are double the price. Also looking at Nikon. Can afford to spent about R 9000.

Re: Affordable hunting scopes
THE question to ask is what the application for the scope will be: Are you primarily going to be hunting in bushveld conditions or on open plains? The answer to this will give a better indication of the suitability of the scope.

Re: Affordable hunting scopes
6-24x is most likely going to be overkill unless you're planning to hunt at 500m regularly. 3-9x is sufficient for all general hunting purposes, although if you're regularly going to hunt springbok etc in the Karoo, 4-12x would also be worth considering.
For R9000, there are many quality scopes. Anything from vortex, leupold, or Nikon will do the job nicely.

But with Vortex's lifetime warranty it must take the prize.

Re: Affordable hunting scopes
the first question is what is the caliber and what is the rifles intended purpose . An example would be that a .416 would need a different scope to a .270

Burris Fullfield II in 3-9×40.
If you want a higher magnification get the Burris 4.5-14×40.
I have switched to Burris on all of my riflesA roaring Lion kills no game

I bought a Howa 3006. Mainly hunt in Namibia and Karoo. Any recommendatiions for scope. I looked at Rudolph and Nikon as well and looks like R 5000 can give you good options.

Also make sure that the salesman isn't just trying to sell you what he has in stock.
