To be far, the "gunsmith" did say that he would cut the retainer to fit over the barrel and fix it to the barrel. I was totally fine with that as I know that getting that front sight and gas-block off the T56 is next to imposable.
I was just totally disgusted with how he tried to glue the barrel lug in place with that black sh!t that he smeared all over the barrel. Ridiculous.
When I raised my concerns with his workmanship to the gun-shop that I used to get the T56 to him (their in-house or appointed gunsmith), the guy behind the counter shrugged his shoulders and took my money. Oh well.

LawDel, he effectively converted it to the 2-part Saiga aftermarket retainer. Just not very well.
Think Brownells stock it. Basically a U notch with a cross bolt.There are no stupid questions ........ just stupid people
