Default Importance of eyewear while shooting....important lesson

Wanted to share this incident I read about...

To follow up with my post about the importance of eyepro, one of my followers @xxxx was kind enough to share his experience. He wasn't wearing eyepro. I've seen this happen too many times.

This was caused by an overcharged round. Let's not turn this into an issue of fault regarding loading or reloading configurations. That is not the focus here. The focus is, had he been wearing eye pro, the injury could have been mitigated or at least, less severe. Let this example be a learning lesson to us all. It only takes one bullet, one piece of shrapnel and one trigger pull to leave us or someone next to us impaired forever. Hold each other accountable!

Thanks for sharing Ernie! We're glad it wasn't your eye brother. We can all appreciate you letting us learn from you.

No, he just needs to put on his shooting glasses.
Had he lost the eye (opposite of being lucky), "he's unlucky and shouldn't bother with lottery tickets" wouldn't have applied.

I trust he's learnt his lesson, will let his eye heal, and then shoot with adequate protection?

sigh, you didnt understand his metaphor.
the guy is incredibly lucky he didnt lose an eye. so lucky, he'd probably win the lotto as well.

and/or, it's his "quota" for being lucky for the next decade.

Thanks. I wasn't going to expend the energy to explain my post. :-)

Thanks for posting. Still scary how many shooters still shoot without eye pro at certain ranges.

I've been hit by a piece of shrapnel/bullet directly in the middle of my line of sight over my left eye recently. Slight chip on the eye pro I was wearing, instead of being blind. I can't understand why anyone would want to risk losing one of the more important senses or depth perception.

A good reminder to be rather safe than sorry.

No more than R20 for the most cheap of safety glasses will certainly save someone's eyesight.

I make sure I always have a set in my range bag just in case someone needs them.

We spend tens of thousands on firearms, reloading accessories etc......This and ear pro should never be overlooked.
