You should be able to find ANSI compliant models from a hundred-and-something-rands. Pyramex makes a MIL-PRF model for roundabout three hundred: http://www.jizni.co.za/eye-protectio...trepid-ii.html I have a couple of these that I use when I introduce new people to the sport, along with 30 dB ear pro. I believe that the more comfortable you make the new shooter, the better chance you have of getting him / her back on the range.

Before I upgraded to Sawflys used them and still keep a couple in the bag.
Took a high speed ricochet in the lens while spectating a steel match; force was enough the bruise me above the brows from the frame impact but nothing but a scratch on the lens.
    Thanks for the reply guys.

I think that about says it all, there is absolutely no reason not to buy a correctly rated product, because they REALLY are not expensive at all.

    To add to this.
I was practicing with my rifle and a casing split from fatigue and blew gases and powder back into my face once.
I had eye protection on atleast.
So yes wear the best you can afford. Dont skimp in safety areas.

I learnt the hard lesson in my former sport and now have 4 pins in my ankle.
